I've seen the Meshtastic messages coming across, but was curious as to where it is announced.
I'd get my brother focused 90 miles North to check a module I loaned him. Hopefully, he will get excited about it. It is difficult to send messages over distance just back to the base node. I doubt many will get excited when many trips go over a few miles from home.
It may be that the nodes aren't configured to forward the mesh? I seem to get proper propagation with Uplink Enabled and Downlink Enabled. I do get messages transferred to Broadcast, but nothing back my home node. So there IS someone listening but are they configured to forward messages by default?
Thanks!
The MESHCON conference was where we launched the balloon. We don't yet have regular balloon flights, but we can definitely look into that as well as regular UAV flights at 400 ft if there is enough interest.
Either way, those would be helpful to gain acceptance. Thank you!
Ya know... I'm just saying... That the auto drone launch BBQ pit could carry an MT payload into a bit of a low earth geosynchronous orbit. :D
All kinds of issues there, but I plan on sending up a small node and see how far I can transmit. It would be a store and forward because there just isn't mesh where I want to go. That, and having to check Skyglass for air traffic and FAA registration. Pop up. Deliver messages. Come home.
I'm going to try and get a drone up this weekend in Georgetown - will let you know if am able.
Thanks, TXP.
I've been looking into the drone with a Meshtastic. It follows intent, so requires a 107 Certificate to simply use a drone to get a radio up and then down. There isn't a light enough drone to put a node on either. I'm close to the airport, so that is another limitation. Now, SHTF, all bets are off, but at least there is a way forward.
Drone will be up in Georgetown area 10/26 around 5:30pm CT
Two flights completed today between 5:30pm and 7pm. Up in the air for about an hour total. ~400ft AGL.
Is the glider an S&F node?
I missed that last flight. Might be a nice addition to Meshtastic to send when a particular node becomes visible.
Is that the Spec5 Drone? I see that it is down 29.
My brother 90 miles North did not see it, but has a stock Wisblock antenna on the North side of his house. Figured he was aware of placement...
The drone is an S&F node, yes.
It was flown again for about ~30 mins 5:30pm-6pm CT today (10/28)
It is able to bridge quite a large number of nodes. We got a few acks on the public group (Primary Channel) during the flight from c91a (AirForce2) and a couple of others.
I was in on the 10/27 drone party. Out-of-town 1028. Drones are a quick bridge. I'm liking it.
Successful pair of flights with the Georgetown drone today. Thanks to all who said hi!
We saw a lot of new nodes come online. The mesh is growing...
