Is there a way to install atak onto the nomad itself instead of once again through going through like the Android phone or any of that stuff? Or would it not work? what stuff would be missing for atak to work properly?

That's a great question. I don't see a Linux TAK client - strange as that is. There is a linux TAK server, but oddly this doesn't come with a TAK client. It expects Android, Windows or iOS clients to connect to it.
One possible path would be if there were an Android emulator for Raspberry Pi OS and then you could just run the Android ATAK app. Unfortunately, there isn't an RPI based Android emulator that will run on Pi OS that I am aware of. Bluestacks is the best option but that doesn't support Pi OS.
The other method would be to run WinTak under Wine on Raspberry Pi OS. All reports I've seen so far suggest that doesn't work either.
So, that brings us to building a TAK client with PyTak. Here's info on PyTak: https://pytak.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
I haven't tried this on the Nomad or looked through the client code examples, but I thought I'd share with you what I do know wrt your question.
ADDITION: Look at the code samples here: https://pytak.readthedocs.io/en/latest/examples/
@TX Programmer that *does* strike me as odd. I guess it's worth talking to the ATAK dev team about it; I can't imagine they've never thought about a Linux port before.
