@Joe I think we need to get an airline to agree to mount a small repeater on a few of their tranports. I realize the regularatory requirements may be insurmountable. But if this could be acomplished, we could have 35k feet repeaters constantly passing overhead. Offering potential 400-600 mile communication radius...
Or perhaps tx_programmer needs to speak with Elon (Starlink).
SpecFive will soon be announcing a partnership with a wonderful group of HAM operators. They run a non-profit and we'll be providing them with very discounted long-range S5 Relay systems. That will go a long way in extending the network across a large community.
In our own area - north austin metro, from Florence, to Leander and Georgetown - I've personally noticed a massive increase in the number of radios and the links one can establish. It used to be almost nothing. Now, I see radios all the time.
While we're waiting for more radios to come online, enabling store and forward and sending up drones with something like Copilot is also something you can do. I've been sending the drone up multiple times a week and it sees well over a hundred nodes when I do.
I think if we keep going at this rate, within a year or two, we will see really wide coverage.
