Battery Indicator Script vs Menu Bar Battery Indicator Icon

  • Hello! I recently purchased the Nomad 2 Pi4 8GB Recon. Before I sort of set it all up and make it my own for Meshtastic, I just wanted to get a battery indicator icon on the menu bar, but I can't seem to get it to show up no matter what I do.

Since the script on the desktop essentially works but only displays the battery life as a percentage what seems like every couple of seconds I figure there has to be some kind of work around to get that script to auto-launch on start-up and perhaps send that data that polls every few seconds to some sort of app or something like that and then that can be docked in the menu bar, no? Am I way off base?

Apologies this is really my first taste of using Raspberry Pis and am a very new user. Love the Nomad 2 though, super cool little cyberdeck I can't wait to keep playing with.

    Thanks!

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out and for the kind words about the Nomad 2. We’re glad you’re enjoying it! What you’re describing is possible in theory, and you’re on the right track with using the battery script and setting it to run at startup. However, we haven’t officially tested or validated a permanent menu bar battery indicator setup on the Nomad 2 yet.

  • @Evan_SpecFive Got it, I can confirm last night I was able to get something up and running, though I forgot to correctly code the polling data from the original script you provided. Hoping to work on it tonight and share it all here once I have it working correctly. Thanks for writing back so quickly!

  • @bigcitymesher that's great to hear. Hopefully, you get this working fine. Cheers!
