SpecFive Voyager – Solar-Powered Magnetic LoRa Meshtastic Node for Vehicles

What’s Included in the Box?

  • SpecFive Voyager Device

Key Features

  • Reliable Long-Range Wireless Communication: This device provides an extended range of communication. Uses LoRa (Long Range) radio technology and operates with Meshtastic, which is an open-source platform for decentralized messaging.
  • Ideal For: Perfect for off-grid adventures, emergency response, and remote team operations. It keeps you connected without relying on cell service.
  • Easy to Use: No technical setup is required. Just attach it to your vehicle’s roof and power it on. To see messages and location, you need to connect your phone through bluetooth LE.
  • Solar Powered with Long-Lasting Battery Life: Equipped with a 6W built-in monocrystalline solar panel and 3300mAh battery, delivering up to 2 days of active use and up to 5 days on standby even without sunlight.
  • Global GPS Tracking Built-In: It features a precision GPS module that connects to multiple satellites, allowing it to track your location anywhere. This includes systems such as GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, and BeiDou. The device provides accurate location information even when you're in the mountains, forests, or traveling in fast-moving vehicles.
  • Rugged Magnetic Roof Mount: It features robust, rubber-coated neodymium magnets that securely attach to any metal surface without scratching, ensuring safety even at highway speeds or on rough terrain.
  • Weatherproof and Withstand Harsh Weather Conditions: It is a robust and low-profile ASA housing that can withstand all exterior elements like rain and UV rays. The aerodynamic design reduces drag, and the housing is engineered to handle the rough terrain and extreme weather conditions.

Use-Case Scenarios

  • Emergency Response and Disaster Relief: During a wildfire in the mountainous region, the wildfire response team can use SpecFive Voyager for GPS tracking and decentralized communication. It utilizes LoRa and Meshtastic technology without relying on cellular or Wi-Fi infrastructure.
  • Hunters, Campers, or Survivalists in Wilderness Areas: When camping in a forest far from the city, having a SpecFive Voyager for each vehicle allows group members to send messages and track each other's locations using the device's GPS relay. One of the main benefits is that it enhances safety and coordination without the need for expensive satellite messengers.
  • Off-Road Convoys: This device is ideal for individuals who enjoy exploring desert trails, especially when they are hundreds of miles away from the nearest signal. It allows users to exchange messages with each other, provided that all vehicles in the network have it mounted on their roofs. The mesh network feature helps track locations, ensuring that no one gets lost.

Deployment

  • Mount the Device: Place the Voyager on any metal surface (like a vehicle roof) using the built-in strong magnetic base. No drilling or tools needed.
  • Power On: The device powers automatically from its internal battery and solar panel—no external power required.
  • Connect to Your Phone: Download the free Meshtastic app (Android/iOS). Enable Bluetooth on your phone and pair with the Voyager to start receiving messages and GPS data.

Not that great

I bought a vehicle node off Etsy that was cheaper and performs better

mostly good

My only complaint is that the width doesn’t fit In between the roof ridges on a suburban. It puts a little twist on the solar panel.

Works well, could be better.

The device is clean, professional, and solid. I've got it mounted on the expanded steel surface of my Gobi rack and it is anchored solid. I've also put it on our Subaru and Tacoma- no issues- drove from Cheyenne to Glacier National Park and no issues. Picked up lots of nodes along the way Go Mesh!

Functionally we are 5 Stars.
Where we lose some ground - Documentation.

As mentioned previously shipped nicely, arrived nicely, but inside the box there was no direction of even where to go to see what to do. With many products out there, I'm sure you've all seen this "Opening Voids Warranty" -but the first thing you need to do with this is open it up and attach the battery. The USB-C is wonky as well, but honestly... and I don't want this to sound petty, but in this day and age it is expected to have a link or a QR code that takes you to the manufacturers hype page with the Action adventure intro and the "Hey thanks for buying our product, in this video we'll show you how to get your SpecFive Voyager up and operational in 10 minutes." queue action adventure music- video of extreme overlanding, and then back to the bench to walk -us- through how to use the product.

The device is solid. That is the foundation. The customer after care and product promotion and post-purchase assistance can use some work.

I personally think you have the tightest product line out there and available and I am going to continue to support you and your products.

Nice low profile design. Been driving with it for a couple weeks. Battery stays between 72% and 95% even after a day or two of rain. Yes you dould build your own if you have access to a 3D printer for about $100 less, but if you want just a pull out of the box, plug in the battery, and go system you can't beat it. Worth it.

Two issues: just throw the included antenna away. It is a cheap "stubby" with an SWR of over 13:1. Buy the 17cm whip. I did and it work great. Hopefully they will make a version with an N-type connector. Thst way you can put a 5dBi Alpha antenna, but their 17cm SMA whip works. The other "issue" is there were ZERO instructions. Thankfully I build my own nodes and knew to remove all the screws on the bottom and plu in the battery.

Battery shipped disconnected no documentation

Nothing explained the device shipped with the battery disconnected and it had to be opened to attach the lead. spent time trying to figure out why it wasn't connecting randomly. barely any space to attach a usb-c cable, current spacing will cause damage if used frequently. Upgraded and seemingly working okay.
