Hey there, totally get why you’re frustrated. Buying a node with the expectation of a plug-and-play experience only to end up troubleshooting app setups and telemetry isn't fun. Let’s get this sorted out, clear up what’s actually happening under the hood, and get you talking on the mesh.
Here’s a direct breakdown of what those stats mean and how to fix it:
Why it saw 150+ nodes: Out of the box, standard Meshtastic devices use the public LongFast channel on default settings. The radio itself was operational—it immediately started receiving broadcast packets from local repeaters and nodes. The hard part was just getting your phone app synced to view that data.
Why Test Pings fail: Directly pinging a specific station over a busy mesh often fails due to hop limits, channel congestion, or distant nodes being visible only via multi-hop MQTT gateways rather than direct RF. Instead of a direct ping, send a simple text message to the Primary/LongFast channel. If local nodes are active, you’ll typically get a text reply or see packet acknowledgments faster.
Why Sats = 0: The Trekker Delta comes equipped with a GPS module, but internal patch antennas require a direct, unobstructed line of sight to the sky to lock onto satellite signals.
If the device is indoors, on a desk, or near a window, it will almost certainly read Sats 0.
The Fix: Take the radio outside into an open space away from tall structures and leave it powered on for 5 to 10 minutes to pull its first cold-start GPS lock (ephemeris data).
