MeshTerm is a hands-on mesh radio and an educational kit, designed to turn curiosity into capability. Built under Project Echo, MeshTerm invites teens and pre-teens to go beyond “plug-and-play” and into the real mechanics of modern mesh communication.
Two Brains, One Conversation.
At the heart of MeshTerm is a dual-ESP32 architecture: The two ESP32s communicate over serial, creating a clean separation between interface logic and radio logic—a deliberate design choice that mirrors real-world embedded systems. Messages, node data, and network activity are visible on both devices, but the Host display unlocks expanded chat history and richer node visibility beyond what’s typically available on standard mesh radios.
Host ESP32
Drives a 1.3” display and directional pad interface. This is the user-facing brain—handling menus, message history, node data, and system interaction.
Radio ESP32 (LoRa Node)
Dedicated to LoRa mesh communication and fully compatible with Meshtastic firmware.
